The ₹100 Perfume Oil: Why Our Afnan 9PM-Inspired Blend Outsells Everything
The cheapest oil we make, and the maths behind why it works — a 9PM-inspired sweet spicy amber at ₹100 for 10g, plus honest notes on when not to wear it and why resellers stock it first.
In this article
Our Afnan 9PM-inspired oil is ₹100 for ten grams. It is the cheapest thing on our site, and by volume of repeat orders it's one of the most successful. I want to spend this article explaining why, because the reasons are more interesting than "it's cheap."
What 9PM is and why it took over
Afnan is a UAE house, and 9PM is the fragrance that made them famous outside the Gulf. Apple and lavender on top, cinnamon and vanilla underneath, tonka and amber in the base. Sweet, warm, slightly spicy.
What made it explode is that it sits in almost exactly the same territory as a very famous French designer scent that costs six times as much, and a lot of people who smelled them side by side concluded the cheaper one was doing the job well enough. Whether that's true is a matter of taste. That it happened is not in dispute — 9PM became the default recommendation for anyone asking for a good sweet masculine fragrance on a budget.
Our oil interpretation takes that profile into a concentrated, alcohol-free format.
The maths, since this article is about value
A 100ml bottle of the original runs around ₹2,500 to ₹3,500 in India. That gives you roughly 700 to 1,000 sprays, and most people use four to six sprays, so call it 150 to 200 wearings.
Ten grams of our oil at ₹100 gives you around two hundred applications at one dab each.
So: comparable number of wearings, at roughly 3% of the cost, with eight to twelve hours of wear instead of five or six. That's the whole pitch and I don't think it needs decorating.
The thing it doesn't give you is projection. The original throws scent for the first hour. The oil sits close. If being noticed across a room is the point for you, buy the spray — it's affordable enough that this isn't a painful recommendation.
When 9PM works and when it really doesn't
Works: evening, winter, wedding season, going out. It's a night fragrance and the name is honest about that.
Doesn't work: office, daytime, and Indian summer. The cinnamon-vanilla-amber base gets amplified badly in heat. I've had two people tell me they wore it to work in June and regretted it, which is a small sample but matches what the chemistry would predict.
If you want one sweet fragrance and you're going to wear it year-round, this isn't the right choice and something lighter would serve you better.
Why it's a good first oil
If you've never worn a perfume oil, this is the one I'd start you on, for three reasons.
It's ₹100, so the downside of not liking it is nothing.
The profile is familiar. Sweet, spicy, ambery — it's not asking you to develop a taste for anything strange. You'll know within a minute whether you're into it.
And it's forgiving of application error. Some oils punish you for over-applying by becoming genuinely unpleasant. 9PM just becomes more of itself. One dab is right, two won't ruin your evening.
The reselling angle, since a lot of you are asking
A meaningful chunk of the people buying this from us aren't wearing it — they're blending it into their own products or reselling it. That's a legitimate use and worth being direct about.
The 9PM profile is one of the easiest sells in the Indian market because the name already has recognition and the scent is broadly liked. If you're building a small perfume business, this is a sensible early stock item. The larger sizes bring the per-gram cost down substantially, and our sampler sets are a cheap way to work out which profiles your own customers respond to before committing to volume.
If that's the direction you're headed, our guide on starting a perfume oil business in India covers the practical side — sourcing, pricing, what actually sells.
How to wear it
One dab at the throat, one behind the ear. Moisturised skin first — dry skin will cut your wear time roughly in half and this is the most common reason people think an oil "doesn't work" on them.
Don't put it on a shirt collar. Amber and vanilla materials stain, and unlike alcohol they don't evaporate out of fabric.
Give it ten minutes before deciding. The opening of an oil is quiet by design; the fragrance arrives late and then stays.
What to try next
If you like 9PM you're in sweet-spicy-ambery territory, and the Arabian houses own that category. The Lattafa-style oils are the obvious next step — Khamrah especially, if you want the same warmth with a coffee-and-dried-fruit twist.
If you want the same sweetness with more polish, the Parfums de Marly vanilla profile does it at a higher level.

A note on names: this oil is an original Unravel Perfumery blend. We do not sell Afnan fragrances and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Afnan Perfumes. The name 9PM is referenced only to describe the style and character of scent our own oil evokes.
