Aldehyde C-10, or decanal, smells like the oil that sprays out when you squeeze an orange peel. It is one of the key molecules in sweet orange oil and a building block for citrus accords, colognes and the classic aldehydic floral style.
What it smells like
Intense orange peel, waxy and slightly sweet, with a soft floral undertone once it is diluted. Neat, it is sharp and fatty; at 1% it smells juicy and bright.
How perfumers use it
Add it from a dilution to lift citrus tops, make orange and mandarin accords smell fresher, or give florals a clean, soapy sparkle alongside C-9, C-11 and C-12 MNA. A little goes a long way.
Blends well with: Aldehyde C-9, Aldehyde C-12 MNA, Dihydromyrcenol, Citrus oils, Hedione.
