Aldehyde C-12 MNA (2-methylundecanal) is the waxy, ambery aldehyde that defines the classic aldehydic floral style of the 1920s. Compared with the straight-chain aldehydes it smells less of citrus peel and more of warm wax, incense and clean linen.
What it smells like
Waxy and fresh at once, with an ambery, slightly resinous incense note and a herbal, almost mossy edge. It is long-lasting for an aldehyde.
How perfumers use it
Use it from a 1% or 10% dilution. MNA gives florals a luminous, powdery-clean halo, adds depth to ambers and incense accords, and pairs well with C-10 and C-11 for a fuller aldehydic top. Keep the dose low; too much turns metallic.
Blends well with: Aldehyde C-10, Aldehyde C-9, Hydroxycitronellal, Coumarin, Musks.
