CAS 118-58-1 · Floral · Balsamic · IFRA restricted (fine fragrance max 7.3%)

Benzyl salicylate is a soft, almost faint floral-balsamic material used as a blender and fixative. On its own it is quiet, but in a formula it rounds out white florals, adds a sunny warmth and helps other notes last.

What it smells like

Very faint, sweet and balsamic with a soft floral, slightly musky warmth.

How perfumers use it

Use it to smooth and fix white-floral, carnation and 'sunscreen' accords, and as a blender in florals and orientals. It is IFRA restricted and an EU-labelled allergen, so check limits for your category.

Blends well with: Hedione, Ylang notes, Hexyl Cinnamic Aldehyde, Aldehyde C-18, Musks.
