Hexyl cinnamic aldehyde, or HCA, is a soft, waxy jasmine floral that has been a staple of perfumery for decades. It is stable, inexpensive and blends into almost anything, which is why it turns up in everything from fine fragrance to soap.
What it smells like
Mild jasmine with a waxy, slightly herbal character. It is soft rather than indolic and gives a gentle floral body.
How perfumers use it
HCA fills out jasmine and white-floral accords, softens rough edges and gives florals more body at low cost. Pair it with Hedione for an airy, modern jasmine. It is stable in soap and candle bases.
Blends well with: Hedione / MDJ, Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate, Hydroxycitronellal, Musks.
