Cedrol is the soft, dry cedarwood alcohol usually isolated from cedarwood oil. It is gentle rather than loud and mainly works as a woody fixative that gives a formula a clean, pencil-shaving dryness and helps it last.
What it smells like
Mild, dry cedarwood with a pencil-shaving character and a faint balsamic sweetness. Very tenacious but low in volume.
How perfumers use it
Dissolve the crystals first (warm ethanol, DEP or benzyl benzoate work well). Cedrol anchors woody, leathery and amber bases, softens sharp woods and adds dry-down to florals and fougères. It pairs well with Iso E Super and vetiver notes.
Blends well with: Iso E Super / Ambergris Ketone, Ambroxan, Coumarin, Vetiver, Musks.
