Cis-3-hexenol, known as leaf alcohol, is the smell of freshly cut grass. Plants release it when their leaves are crushed. In perfumery it's the go-to material for a sharp, natural green top note.
What it smells like
Intensely green: cut grass, crushed leaves and a sharp, fresh bite. It is very volatile and fades quickly, but it makes a strong first impression.
How perfumers use it
Use it in small amounts, from a dilution, to give florals, fruity accords and fresh fragrances a realistic green, just-picked feel. It pairs naturally with cis-3-hexenyl acetate and with galbanum and violet leaf notes.
Blends well with: Hedione, Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol, Hydroxycitronellal, Citrus oils, Galbanum.
