Hydroxycitronellal is the classic lily-of-the-valley (muguet) molecule, used in perfumery for more than a century. With several newer muguet materials now restricted, it has become a key building block for a fresh, dewy lily-of-the-valley.
What it smells like
Soft, sweet and clean: lily of the valley with a linden-blossom freshness and a slightly green edge. Gentle, rounded and long-lasting for a floral.
How perfumers use it
Use it as the core of muguet and white-floral accords, and to soften and freshen rose and jasmine blends. It pairs well with Hedione, phenyl ethyl alcohol and a trace of cis-3-hexenol for a dewy green lift.
