Exaltolide is dsm-firmenich's name for pentadecanolide, one of the classic macrocyclic musks. It is refined, soft and slightly animalic, closer to the natural musk character than most synthetic musks. Exaltolide Total is the grade we supply.
What it smells like
Fine, powdery musk with a soft animalic warmth. It is quiet but very long-lasting and sits close to the skin.
How perfumers use it
Use it to add a sensual, natural-feeling musk to florals, ambers and skin-scent accords, often alongside Habanolide and ethylene brassylate. It can solidify when cool; warm gently to re-liquefy. It is IFRA restricted, so check the limit for your product category.
