Ethyl vanillin is a rich, creamy vanilla crystal, noticeably stronger and smoother than vanillin. This is the Rhodia (Solvay group) product, a reference grade for perfumery and cosmetics.
What it smells like
Rich, sweet, creamy vanilla with a slightly chocolatey, custard-like softness. Very long-lasting.
How perfumers use it
Dissolve the crystals first; a 10% solution in ethanol, DPG or TEC is convenient. Use it in gourmand, amber and oriental accords. Note that vanillin-type materials can discolour (brown) in some bases over time.
Blends well with: Coumarin, Ambermor, Cashmeran, Musks, Benzyl Salicylate.

Is ethyl vanillin stronger than vanillin?
Yes. It is roughly two to four times stronger, with a creamier, richer vanilla character.
Why does my vanilla perfume turn brown?
Vanillin and ethyl vanillin can discolour in some bases and with light exposure; colour-stable formulation or tinted bottles help.
Is ethyl vanillin IFRA restricted?
