Lyral is IFF's name for HICC, the classic lily-of-the-valley (muguet) molecule behind many fresh floral perfumes of the past decades. It is now heavily regulated: it is banned in cosmetic products in the EU and tightly controlled under the IFRA Standards, so please check the rules for your market and product type before using it.
What it smells like
Soft, sweet lily of the valley with a fresh cyclamen-like floral note. Gentle and long-lasting.
How perfumers use it
Historically used as the core of muguet and fresh floral accords. For products intended for the EU or IFRA-compliant markets, perfumers now rebuild the muguet note with alternatives such as hydroxycitronellal and Florol.
Blends well with: Hydroxycitronellal, Florol, Hedione, Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol, Musks.

Restricted under the IFRA Standards (51st Amendment, in force). Maximum in fine fragrance (Category 4): 0.20%; other product types have different limits. EU: Prohibited in cosmetic products in the EU (Regulation 2017/1410; banned from sale since 23 Aug 2021).
