Menthone is the minty ketone found alongside menthol in peppermint oil. This 70:30 grade is a mix of menthone and isomenthone. It gives a clean peppermint freshness with a slightly woody-herbal body, without menthol's icy cooling effect.
What it smells like
Fresh peppermint with a cool, slightly woody and herbaceous character, softer and less medicinal than menthol.
How perfumers use it
Use it in mint and herbal accords, fresh fougères and aromatic men's fragrances, and to add a cool lift to lavender and citrus tops. It blends well with lavender, rosemary and citrus notes.
Blends well with: Lavender, Coumarin, Citrus oils, Cedrol, Dihydromyrcenol.

Is menthone the same as menthol?
No. Menthone is the ketone and menthol is the alcohol. Menthone smells minty but does not give menthol's strong cooling sensation.
